Privacy

The app collects nothing, sends nothing, and has nowhere to send it to. This website counts visits, and says so below.

The whole policy in one sentence: the app has no account and no server, and it makes no network requests of any kind — everything you enter stays on your own device.

That is unusual enough to be worth spelling out, so the rest of this page explains what that means in practice and what the few permissions are actually for.

What the app stores, and where

Your machines — names, mix ratios, photos, part numbers, service history and notes — are stored in your device's own storage, by the app, for the app. They are not uploaded, backed up to us, or shared with anyone. We never see them, because there is no “we” in the loop: there is no server behind this app.

If you delete the app, that data goes with it.

Camera and photo library

The app uses the camera or photo library only at the moment you tap Tap to add a photo while adding or editing a machine. The photo you take or pick is resized and stored on your device alongside that machine.

Photos are never uploaded. Adding one is optional, and declining a camera or photo permission is fine — every other part of the app works without it.

Backups are yours to hold

Because nothing is stored on a server, a lost or wiped phone means a lost list. The Export backup button in Settings writes a plain JSON file and hands it to your phone's own share sheet, so you choose where it goes — Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, email, or nowhere at all.

The app does not transmit that file. Once it leaves the share sheet, wherever you sent it is governed by whatever service you sent it to.

What the app does not do

This website

The pages at gasnoil.us do use Cloudflare Web Analytics, so we can see how many people visit and which pages they read. It sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not follow you to other sites — it counts page views, the rough country a visit came from, and which site linked here. There is no way for us to identify you from it.

The server also keeps ordinary web-server logs (IP address, requested page, timestamp) for operational and security purposes. Those logs are not used to build a profile of you and are not shared.

None of this applies to the app itself. The version you install from the App Store or Google Play runs entirely from your device and makes no network requests at all — there is nothing for analytics to observe. If you added the website to your Home Screen instead, that is a web page, and the paragraph above applies to it.

Children

Gas & Oil is a tool for people who maintain equipment, and is rated 4+. Since it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either.

Changes, and how to reach us

If this policy ever changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date. An app update that began collecting data would be a different app, and would say so here first.
